Smile Design at Oaks Dental

From subtle refinements to full transformations, smile design helps you achieve a balanced, confident smile that feels natural to you.

Your smile plays an important role in how you express yourself. When something feels “not quite right”—whether it’s the shape, colour, or harmony of your teeth—it can impact your confidence. Smile design at Oaks Dental is a personalised, collaborative process that allows you to explore what you would like to change, understand what is possible, and preview what your future smile could look like before any treatment begins.

Our approach is warm, thoughtful, and grounded in achieving results that look natural, suit your facial features, and align with your lifestyle.

What is Smile Design?

Smile design is a tailored cosmetic dentistry process that focuses on enhancing the appearance of your smile through a combination of planning, digital design, and carefully selected treatments. Instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we look at how your teeth, gums, lips, and facial structure work together to create your unique expression.

A smile design plan may include one or more of the following:

  • Porcelain or composite veneers
  • Teeth whitening
  • Crowns or restorations
  • Bonding to correct chips or asymmetry
  • Gum contouring to balance the smile line
  • Replacing old or worn restorations
  • Adjusting proportions for harmony and symmetry

The process is flexible—some patients prefer small improvements, while others choose a more comprehensive enhancement.

At Oaks Dental, smile design is built around partnership. We take time to understand:

  • What you would like to improve
  • How you currently feel about your smile
  • What you envision for the future
  • Your comfort level, lifestyle, and timeline

Together, we create a plan that feels realistic, achievable, and tailored to your personal goals. You remain involved at every stage of the design process.

    Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are renowned for their strength, longevity, and natural appearance. Each veneer is custom-made to enhance the shape, colour, and symmetry of your smile while blending seamlessly with your existing teeth. Highly resistant to staining, porcelain veneers are a long-lasting solution for patients seeking a brighter, balanced, and refined smile.

    Composite Veneers

Composite veneers provide an affordable and efficient way to transform your smile. Using a tooth-coloured resin, our dentists sculpt each veneer directly onto your teeth with precision and care. Treatment is usually completed in a single visit, making this a convenient option for correcting chips, gaps, and minor imperfections while still achieving a natural, harmonious look.

    Frequently Asked Veneer Questions

What’s the difference between porcelain veneers and composite veneers?

Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a dental lab and then bonded to your teeth. They are highly durable, stain-resistant, and provide the most natural, lifelike appearance.

Composite veneers are made from tooth-coloured resin and applied directly to your teeth in a single visit. While more affordable, they are generally less durable and may stain more easily over time.

      How long do veneers last?

With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 10–15 years or longer. Composite veneers usually last 5–8 years and may need touch-ups along the way. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are essential for getting the most out of your veneers.

      How strong are veneers?

Veneers are designed to be strong and durable, allowing you to enjoy most foods as normal. However, just like natural teeth, they can be damaged by excessive force. Avoid biting hard objects or using your teeth to open packages. If you grind or clench your teeth, a night guard is strongly recommended.

      Do veneers damage natural teeth?

Composite veneers are usually applied without removing any tooth structure.

Porcelain veneers may require minimal reshaping of the teeth to ensure a proper fit. When carried out by an experienced dentist, this preparation is minimal and does not cause permanent damage to your natural teeth.

      Will my veneers look natural?

Yes. Veneers are carefully designed to match the colour, shape, and translucency of your natural teeth. At Oaks Dental, we take into account your facial features, age, and smile proportions to create a result that blends seamlessly — a smile that looks like you, only better.

How do I care for my veneers?

Caring for veneers is the same as caring for your natural teeth: brush twice daily, floss once a day, and attend regular dental check-ups. Wearing a sports mouthguard during contact sports and a night guard if you grind your teeth will also help protect your veneers long term.

      Can veneers be whitened?

Veneers cannot be whitened with bleaching treatments. If you’re looking for a brighter overall smile, we may recommend whitening your natural teeth first before placing veneers. This ensures your veneers are matched to the shade you want.

What if a veneer chips or breaks?

Small chips in composite veneers can often be repaired with resin.

Porcelain veneers, however, are best replaced if chipped or broken to ensure strength and appearance. Our team will recommend the best solution depending on the damage and veneer type.
